I think as a Franciscan who has given nature retreats for about 15 years and one who was a science teacher, I see the interconnectedness of creation as basic from science and faith which I see working hand in hand. Francis of Assisi wrote a Canticle of Creatures in 1225 that praises God for the gift of Brother Sun, sister Moon, and includes Fire, Earth with herbs and grass: all are kin. Francis wrote this because he said "I wish to compose a new Hymn about the Lord's creatures, of which we make daily use, without which we cannot live, and with which the human race greatly offends its Creator." (It seems our abuse of the earth goes way back.)

Easter is the holiest day in the Christian year. Over 2 billion celebrate the resurrection of Jesus which their faith teaches them is real. If it was true, realistic, concrete, then it is the greatest moment in the history of the world. If it is, rather, symbolic, it holds great opportunity for us to learn about the transformation of our own lives. ***(Sermon Begins at 30 seconds into recording)***

Sometimes we are marked by surprise. Something so subtle, so simple. The transition may be a long time coming and change every part of who you are. Or you may just learn to call the dog. What are the daily rites of passage that you experience? What was the moment that turned your life upside-down? With readings from Ezra Jack Keats' classic "Whistle for Willy" and others, we will explore what makes the quotidian sacred.
On March 19th 2017 the sermon focused on "The Courage to Act in the Face of Fear" in order to walk a new pathway as a church. Which hopefully leads to ... transformation. this service is about what comes next. Provided the courage has been found and we can act to help heal the ills of the world, starting with our own. What will happen to us? What will we become? Listen and find out!
