May 29th - June 4th, 2018 Sunday, June 3rd- “Blessing” Rev. Barry Bloom Blessing is the theme for the month. How perfect. Because that is exactly what I want to give you in this service. Native peoples the world over have taught us Westerners that “getting” is not where it’s at, it is “giving” that brings us together and fuels the spirit of our community. The Navajo “Blessing Way” is one way to bring well-being to all. We will practice blessing each other and I get to practice blessing you! Barry Bloom There are few people among us with more wit and common sense than “Bob.” He is/was a UU minister in the Pacific Northwest, living in a houseboat, finally settling into his truest ministry, writing. His books, beginning with, “All I Really Need to know I Learned in Kindergarten,” are truly funny, but funny wise. The way you would expect a good UU minister to write. So, come to enjoy his creativity, his singular goofy vision, and let us bring some much-needed balance into our world with laughter. May 1st - May 7th, 2018 Guest At Your Table “Guest at Your Table” boxes are due. If you forgot to return yours please make arrangements with Margaret in the office or if you have questions please ask Kathy Vaughn. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you all for making this final event of the Holocaust Memorial Observance, a smashing success. Sam Henline and his Klezmer Band, Schmuel and the Mentshn performed a superb concert interspersed with a very informative lecture about the music and time. Great thanks to all who volunteered to set up, clean up, greet or bring food.Thank's to: Sam Henline and Schmuel and the Mentshn, Eulice Kogovsek, Karen Clugston, Kristina Bain, Ana Schultz, Margaret Chiniquy, Julie Miller, Tim Berendt and from the Holocaust Memorial Observance Committee Khris Gamer, Tracey Adams, and Mary Billings. This week long observance has been commemorated for 34 years in Greeley and Northern Colorado, and now it is more important than ever to educate about the perils racism, hatred bigotry and prejudice. This past year, The Anti-Defamation League has identified 1,986 anti-Semitic incidents in its 2017 audit. That's up from 1,267 in 2016, marking the highest single-year increase since the organization released its first audit in 1979. They also report an 89 percent increase of antisemitic incidents on college campuses from the previous year. These horrific stats make it imperative that our emphasis continues to educate middle school children and young adults. Perhaps our church can offer an additional children's event next year. Let me know if you are interested in helping. We are blessed to host this event as it allows us to share our gifts to the greater community as well as live out our principles. Thank you again. Hollis Spring Clean Up Come join us for our annual Spring Clean Up! There is plenty to do to help keep our church in great condition. Saturday, May 5th, 9 am - Noon. Doughnuts and Coffee provided! Sunday, May 6th- “Leaning into the Poetry of Mary Oliver” Rev. Barry Bloom From the most casual descriptions of daily life, to profound insights into the human condition, Mary Oliver has been lending us her great mind and vulnerable emotions for many years. She, more than any writer these last 50 years or so, has led us into the bosom of nature. Has led us to see light and life in new ways. We welcome her voice this day. May we leave better knowing what we want to do with our “one wild and precious” lives. RE: Chapel / Story of All Ages.
