What's happening at the UUCG?
September 28th-October 4th September 30th- Choir Rehearsal 7pm October 3rd- Citizen's Climate Lobby 11am October 4th- The Gift of Hillel- Rev. Howell Lind We will focus on what we might learn from an ancient story about letting go, about forgiveness, and living our lives by the values of our faith. RE:Children's Chapel Other News and Reminders Calling All Artists A Task Tree is needed. What is a Task Tree? It is a tree with leaves that indicate tasks that need to be done in the church. We have many jobs, some large and some small. People can select the task that they would like to do to help out our church family. The tree could be on one panel of the screen that surrounds the sound booth. If you would like to design the tree, please contact Hollis. It takes a village. From our Soul Matters collaborative, we offer these resources on our monthly theme of Letting Go. Click HERE for the resources! Partnership Information If you have any questions or thoughts about the partnership with Foothills and Greeley, we have a liaison group comprised of Karen Harder, board member from Foothills, all three ministers and Hollis Berendt, immediate past president of UUCG. Please contact Holllis with your comments, questions or thoughts. All information will be brought to the liaison meetings. Do you provide support for a friend or loved one? Here is support for YOU! Many of us provide support for a friend or loved one or family member. We may not think of ourselves as a “caregiver,” and yet this support can impact many facets of our lives. In order to sustain this support, we need to seek out support for ourselves. This is what Powerful Tools for Caregivers is all about. These sessions begin October 8th at 9:30 – 11:30, running for 6 sessions, and facilitated by church members of Foothills Unitarian Church. Please contact Rev. Gretchen Haley gretchen@foothillsuu.org for more information or sign up here. Fall Transition Workshop hosted by the Building and Grounds Ministry Please join us Saturday, October 10th from 9:30 until noon. We will conduct an entire morning of intentionality and active purposeful meditation as we prepare our building and our grounds for the winter season. Come prepared to focus your attention on the weeds or the shrubs; work mindfully as we replace screen windows with storm windows; slowly guide your paintbrush across the primer, knowing that the building is better protected from your efforts; carefully dust light bulbs and fixtures; attentively tighten bolts on the pews….. The morning workshop will require many hands to make light work. Please bring your work gloves and special tools. All levels of participation will be celebrated. Contact Shelley Gotchey (ssgotchey@comcast.net) with your questions, contributions, and concerns. Our partnership with Foothills was recently featured as a part of the UUA’s Growing Unitarian Universalism blog. Click here to check it out! Did you know that you can give the Church money and it will not cost you a dime? Just buy gift cards and help the church raise money for all of our ministry groups. Gretchen Haley What would it mean to live your life as a YES? RE: Children's Chapel Sunday, September 20th- Theme Thoughts 11:30am Other News and Reminders Rev. Gretchen Haley's September Reflections: What does it mean to be a people of invitation? It’s September! The weather is already shifting and the colors are beginning to turn. School is back in session, and as of this past Sunday, our new church year has officially begun. It is a time of many new beginnings. As a part of the new year, we are returning to our monthly theme-based ministry, this time using the Soul Matters Sharing Circle themes, which are being used by over 120 other Unitarian Universalist congregations. Find out more about Soul Matters here. For September, the theme is invitation, with our grounding question: “what does it mean to be a people of invitation?” As a part of our reflections this month, I have been sitting with the poem, Beginning to Begin by Gunilla Norris, and asking myself what in my life is “beginning to begin.” I'd invite you to read the poem in the photo below, and join with me in this reflection..... As we move into this new church year, and new school year, this new season, let us ask ourselves this question: What is the invitation our lives are making to us now? What is beginning to begin? And, what space would you need to make so that this new beginning could have the room to take hold? What new clearing would you need to create in your life, in your heart? Being a “people of invitation” means constantly making space and clearing the way for new arrivals. It is not always easy work, and it can bring a mix of feelings of grief, and relief, and it can take time. And so we take a deep breath, and be kind to ourselves, and keep trusting that, as Julian of Norwich said, “All will be well, all will be well, and all manner of things will be well.” In partnership, Gretchen Calling All Artists A Task Tree is needed. Share the Plate Just a reminder that the plate this week will go to the Children's Garden. The People's Garden is a joint venture between Occupy Greeley and Al Frente De Lucha. " All are invite d to come out and garden with us. Those volunteers who work the land will participate in the harvest. All people have the right to clean, healthy food that is produced using organic growing practices. The mission of The Children's Garden is to provide a place for children and community to connect with the earth, learn, participate, experience, and enjoy the fruits of their labor."
