 What's happening at the UUCG? December 7th-13th
Tuesday, December 8th- Membership Ministry Meeting 1pm Wednesday, December 9th- Please consider volunteering to be at the church from 5:00-7:00 to allow people to drop off warm weather clothing and diapers for Lutheran Family Services. I'd like to have a minimum of two people, however, the more the merrier. Perhaps there could be a pot luck if many of you volunteer. Or you could all bring your own dinner and sit and chat with another volunteer. There is no guarantee that anyone will actually drop off clothing so it would be especially nice if this could be a time to socialize with one another. Please contact Hollis if you can help. Wednesday, December 9th- Choir Rehearsal 7pm Thursday, December 10th- Card Sharks 7pm Saturday, December 12th- Holiday Party 6pm. Please join your UUCG friends for a celebration of this special season! Bring a plate of Christmas cookies, or other handheld snacks to share if you are able. All are welcome, with or without food to share. Mr. & Mrs. Claus will be present to do a reading of The Night Before Christmas, and be available for pictures and fun! Our own Jonathan Hoffman will be playing the piano so we can sing seasonal favorites, plus other musical guests. Bring your donations of winter clothing & diapers for our gift to Lutheran Family Services for those in need. Join us as we "hang the greens" and enjoy the season!" Sunday. She hopes to see you then! A song from my childhood advised us to "hold on loosely" instead of clinging too tightly. If you have a question, donation, or an RE conversation, please contact Shelley Gotchey. It's Guest at Your Table! The time has come. The boxes are here! We are ready to embark on our annual Guest at Your Table project. The is a sort of game we play every year to support our UUSC, our Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, in its global work for human rights, social justice, and disaster relief. What we do every year at holiday time and have been doing for more than 40 years is to symbolically invite “guests” into our homes to share our bounty by adding money, spare change, to the little box each we sit down to a meal. By the time the project ends in early January we write a check for the total collected amount and send it off to UUSC. The boxes are on the tables in the foyer along with brochures explaining who some of the people are who are being helped, as well as some who have been helped in the past. And explaining too how UUSC began before World War II helping people get out of Europe and away from the impending terrors of Nazism. It is to UUSC that we owe our flaming chalice symbol as this was the emblem developed to light the way to freedom marking the centers where people could get help.It's a wonderful story and a wonderful organization. You can always find out more as uusc.org. Although UUSC operates by UUA principles, it is an independent organization dependent on the generosity of its members and friends for financial support . The four banners hanging high and proudly at the back of our sanctuary were awarded to us for having 50% of our members belonging to UUSC, for being congregations with a “Vision of Justice” Please join us in this tradition! A note from Ministerial Resident Diana McLean about Guest At Your Table: As someone who grew up in a Unitarian Universalist church, I have many childhood memories of Guest At Your Table boxes on our dining room table at this time of year. It was part of our annual tradition as a family and a congregation, and I'm so delighted to discover that it's a long-time tradition here at UUCG as well! New Directory: You can access our new directory from the website in the for members section. We are not printing large numbers of the directory so that we can continually update the information and save a few trees. If you cannot access the directory this way and would like a printed copy, please send a request to office_manager@greeleyuuc.org Place a Service Snowflake on the Task Tree Please notice the task tree on the divider by the sound booth. Please put your name on a leaf indicating where you would like to help. There are also leaves with no task. If there is something you'd like to do, but don't see that particular task, please write your name and the task that you would like to share. We thank you for your gifts of your time. Tangled Blessing: A Holiday Support Small Group for Grief and Loss- November 19th-December 17th 6:45pm at Foothills In these 4 sessions, we will explore the stories we carry of grief and loss, offer one another support, and seek practices of healing and growth. Annual Holiday Craft Workshop at Foothills On Sunday, December 13th from 2-5pm in the Social Hall, Children ages 4-12 are invited to this fun afternoon of Holiday Crafting. We have 14 stations for kids to make fun holiday crafts to give as gifts or decorate your home for the holidays. Admission is just $5. This year’s projects include- Candy cane Reindeer, Mint Sugar Scrub, Pinecone Owls, Chalice Angel Ornaments, Cookie Decorating, and more!
