Click HERE to see the many wonderful options. Do you provide support for a friend or loved one? Here is support for YOU! Many of us provide support for a friend or loved one or family member. We may not think of ourselves as a “caregiver,” and yet this support can impact many facets of our lives. In order to sustain this support, we need to seek out support for ourselves. This is what Powerful Tools for Caregivers is all about. These sessions begin October 8th at 9:30 – 11:30, running for 6 sessions, and facilitated by church members of Foothills Unitarian Church. Please contact Rev. Gretchen Haley gretchen@foothillsuu.org for more information or sign up here. Candidating Week Information- Our partner, Foothills Unitarian Church in Fort Collins, had their senior minister of 23 years retire in June, 2014. Since that time, they have been in the process of defining who they are and where they want to go with their future ministry. Several months ago they formed a search committee to begin the process that would culminate in calling their next senior minister. Rev. Gretchen Haley, their current Associate Minister, applied for the position. The search committee unanimously voted to make her their chosen candidate. Once a candidate is chosen, they must go through a candidating week (Nov. 8-15), full of preaching and meetings with all groups of the church, plus some informal “getting to know you” sessions for the general congregation. At the end of this week the congregation will take a vote as to whether to “call” Rev. Gretchen. The term “calling” a settled minister captures our historic UU tradition of congregation polity (individual congregational governance). Only the full membership of a UU congregation can “call” a settled minister (not the board of trustees, not any faction of the congregation, not someone outside the congregation from above telling them who will be their minister). Calling a minister implies a special bond between minister and congregation—over and above the bond that is formed when a minister is hired on contract (as Eric & Kelly were in our last two years). While the Greeley congregation is not the one considering calling Rev. Gretchen (and therefore not voting), we will be in a position to benefit from her call IF she is chosen AND we remain in partnership with Foothills Unitarian. For this reason, Foothills would like to extend an open invitation for Greeley members & friends to attend any of the congregation-wide “getting to know you” sessions they are holding.
