Sunday, September 18th- Love. The Prime Resistance to Hate- Rev. Barry Bloom How do we resist violence and the hateful actions of others? When we react in kind, we have been successfully recruited to be "a part of the problem." Violence and hate beget violence and hate. The only real choice we have, as religious people, was handed down from over two thousand years ago. Love our neighbors as ourselves. Turn the other cheek. As UU's, how do we practice such difficult actions and remain true to our principles? RE:Class #1 Covenant and famous UU, PT Barnum Share the Plate with Standing Rock/Dakota Access Pipeline Land has been taken and treaties broken. The Social Change Ministry has voted that we share our plate with the protectors of water and land at the Standing Rock/Dakota Access Pipeline.Please write a check to UUCG with Standing Rock on the memo, or bring cash. Also being collected are sleeping bags, blankets, food, winter survival gear, hand warmers, and personal hygiene items. Items will be taken to Al Frente de Lucha Sunday afternoon where they are attempting to fill a truck to take to Standing Rock. Native American Nations have joined hands together to peacefully "protect all children of God... have a right to clean water, and that is what this fight is about...recognizing that water is life." The RE Committee is hoping to hire a new person by the end of this month. If you know of anyone outside the church who is interested, please call Kathy Vaughn. The lock box for the building's code has been changed. If you use this lock box and have not received the new code, please contact Tim Berendt. Lutheran Family Services Refugee & Asylee Programs was given garden space for our refugees in Greeley to use! We have a garden expert helping us with this project and she recommended that we ask for the following to be donated: Seeds: pea pods, summer squash, lettuce, pumpkins, beans, spinach, carrots, onions, small potatoes Starts: tomatoes, herbs, eggplant, broccoli, peppers, cucumbers, lemongrass, rosemary, basil, cilantro, garlic Perennials: chives, sage, oregano, tarragon, grapes, strawberries Supplies: gloves, baskets, weed tools, cutters, bleach spray, fertilizer, rakes, hand tools/shovels, rope, lattice, 2 tarps, wire tralices, hoses, waterproof sign-in book If you would like to donate, please email Sarah Gostenik at sarah.gostenik@lfsrm.org or call her at 970-336-2208, thank you!
