Worship This Week Sunday Services Our Theme is Compassion November 17th, 2019 For this Sunday's service, Rev. Aaron Norris will be speaking on this months theme of compassion. Community Events Later This Month Walk and Talks November 25th; 12-1 p.m. Well, we got snowed out in October, but the Theological Walks with Rev. Norris will continue weather permitting. All are welcome to join Rev. Norris on monthly theological walks the fourth Monday of every month at 12:00 p.m. on site. The walks will be a combination of historical tour, Socratic dialogue, walking meditation, and community building. Each walk will be about an hour. The topic of the walk will take into account the route chosen. Contact Rev. Norris if you are interested or arrive at the church at 11:40 to join him before he leaves for the walk. In the month of November, Rev. Norris will lead a walk around and in the immediate vicinity of Montview Park. Those interested can have lunch together to continue the conversation. Parade of Lights The Parade of Lights will be staged in the UUC parking lot starting November 30th, at 4:30pm-6:30pm. All are welcome to join. Other News and Events Service Auction Janelle Helling and her family have generously donated a ½ Cord of wood to the church for our November Service Auction Item. Contact Michele at the main office to put in a bid. Pathways to Meaning & Membership Class This class is designed to go over some of the basic history of Unitarian Universalism. It also helps you to better understand our congregation and see how you my deepen your involvement. It also is a great opportunity to meet others who are new to our church as well, but also have an interest in becoming more involved. While it is not required for membership, I highly recommend that you participate in this class as a first step to considering membership. The class is offered about once every six weeks or so and taught by our minister, Reverend Aaron Norris. The class takes about 90 minutes and are at noon on select Sundays. The next class date is December 15th. If you're interested in attending, please RSVP to Rev. Aaron or follow this link. Holiday Craft Day December 14 from 1- 4pm Craft Fair and Children's Craft Activities Art activities, make ornaments, listen to holiday music, eat cookies. Parents will have time to leave to shop while children stay. We are looking for people who want to sell crafts at this event. Faith Flags Everyone has done a great job of getting their materials for the faith flags that we want to display in our entry, but we’ve all been a little slow in bringing them back in. Rev. Norris’ flag looks a little lonely up there by itself. As the flags come back in, we intend to get them up and show what the community at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greeley is all about. If you haven’t gotten your flag yet, contact Julie Miller or Michele Masters and they’ll arrange it. If you’ve got the material but haven’t brought it in, we want to see it! If you’re feeling a little intimidated by the whole artistic expression part, remember that Rev. Norris has some small stamps that you can use to make a flag without the need for much artistic skill; you’re welcome to use them after service! Food Drive Please bring non perishable foods to church to distribute to the Weld Food Bank. Most needed items are peanut butter, tuna fish, beans, pasta, rice, canned fruits and vegetables. Please do not donate expired cans or boxes as they will be thrown out. We need hosts on Sunday mornings and sign changers every two weeks in the beginning of the week. Worship This Week Sunday Services Our Theme is Peace October 20th, 2019 If we want to live in peace, what will be required of us? Rev. Aaron Norris has a couple of ideas on what is required of us when we seek to live in Peace. He will lead our services this Sunday as we continuing our theme of peace. Our choir will be preforming and there will be a time for sharing in our Candles in Community. The recipient of our plate will be the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. Community Events this Week Worship Committee Meeting Sunday, October 20, 11:15 One of the most important aspects of our faith community is our gethering time for worship on Sunday mornings. Do you have an interest in helping to craft meaningful worship? Would you like to participate in this important part of our shared faith journey. Our worship committee is meeting this Sunday to make plans for November and December. All are welcome to attend. Guest Speaking Event at UUCG Thursday, October 17th from 11:30 to 1:00 (Free) Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) will host Bob Kinsey from the Colorado Coalition for the Prevention of Nuclear War. The mission of The Colorado Coalition is to educate the general public and public officials concerning proactive and solution-oriented action on nuclear weapons. The event is free and all are welcome to attend. The Cherry Orchard October 17-19 at 7:30 and October 20 at 2:00, UNC Langworthy Theatre Our very own UUCG member, Claire Metusalem, will be in UNC's production of The Cherry Orchard in Langworthy Theatre this upcoming weekend! Jurassic World in Concert with the GPO October 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Union Colony Civic Center Our very own UUCG music director Rene Racek will be singing in the choir with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra as they accompany the film Jurassic World with a live preformance of the score. Community Events this Week Build Your Own Theology This fall there are two session each with ten class periods and are both designed to help student to articulate and discover their own understanding of meaning in the world through brief readings, short group exercises and journaling. The first session has no prerequisite. Those who took session 1 last fall are encouraged to sign up for session two. Thank you for you generous donations. the Social Justice Ministry Community Events Later in October Renee Performance Tuesday October 8th at 7pm Our very own music director Renee Racek will be performing with the women's and men's glee club and middle concert choir. The concert takes places at the campus commons performance hall at UNC "1021 22nd st". Ample parking is available. The Greeley Chorale Saturday October 5th, 7:30 pm at UNC Campus Commons, 1051 22nd Street, Greeley. Tickets: 970-356-5000 or greeleychorale.org (Preseason discounts if purchased by October 1st!) Walk and Talks (Monday October 28th; 12-1 p.m.) All are welcome to join Rev. Norris on monthly theological walks the fourth Monday of every month at 12:00 p.m. The walks will be a combination of historical tour, Socratic dialogue, walking meditation, and community building. Each walk will be about an hour. The topic of the walk will take into account the route chosen. In October our theme is peace and we will be walking through Bittersweet Park. Contact Rev. Norris if you are interested or arrive at the church at 11:40 to join him before he leaves for the walk. Other News and Reminders Pathways to Meaning & Membership Class This class is designed to go over some of the basic history of Unitarian Universalism. It also helps you to better understand our congregation and see how you my deepen your involvement. It also is a great opportunity to meet others who are new to our church as well, but also have an interest in becoming more involved. While it is not required for membership, I highly recommend that you participate in this class as a first step to considering membership. The class is offered about once every six weeks or so and taught by our minister, Reverend Aaron Norris. The class takes about 90 minutes and are at noon on select Sundays. The next class date is November 3rd. If you're interested in attending, please RSVP to Rev. Aaron or follow this link. Scrip Cards King Soopers has changed the way they donate to our church. Worship This Week Sunday Services September 22nd, 2019"Balancing Acts: Empathy and Equinox" This week we will dive into our theme of Empathy -the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. Rev. Aaron Norris will lead our service and ask what empathy has to do with justice and compassion and how we all benefit from seeing and being seen by others. Community Events this Week Climate StrikeWomen's International League for Peace and Freedom is encouraging local chapters to support the Climate Strike that was initiated by 16 year old Greta Thunberg. You are welcome to join us at our weekly meeting on September 19th at 11:30 to hear a video with Greta, hear about local ballot initiatives for November, and make signs for the rally. AND Join with us at a rally to turn up the political heat and demand action to halt the climate crisis on Sunday Sept 22 at 1:00 at Bittersweet Park by the Veterans Memorial. Aaron will be speaking. This fall there are two session each with ten class periods and are both designed to help student to articulate and discover their own understanding of meaning in the world through brief readings, short group exercises and journaling. The first session has no prerequisite. Those who took session 1 last fall are encouraged to sign up for session two.
