Weekly Announcements Mar. 26th- Apr. 1st, 2019

3/26/2019

What's happening at the UUCG?
Mar. 26th - Apr. 1st, 2019

To Members and Friends From the President:  Our Pledge Drive is Underway!
We celebrated the kick off of our Annual Pledge Drive with the True Review singing oldies but goodies from the 50's, 60's, and 70's on Saturday, March 23rd .  Bill and Jean Thomas took home the coveted 1st Place Chili Cook Off Trophy (it also included Bill's own original song entitled "Chili With Beans" - ask him about it!), Reverend Aaron Norris placed 2nd with an amazing lamb and bison chili.  Janelle Henning's Tibetan Salsa, a recipe literally brought to us from a nunnery in the Himalayas won the Salsa Trophy.  Good Fun and Times were had by all.Our pledge drive will continue through April 23rd and plan on having coffee with either Reverend Norris or a member of the Board of Trustees.  We continue giving generously as we plan our way forward and upward as a liberal voice in Greeley and northern Colorado!  I have been asked about giving if I am not a member and just a friend.  You are still a vital part of our UU work.  I pledged prior to becoming a member of UUCG as a friend of the church, although we often seek pledges from members.  All pledges are welcomed as it helps us plan the financial year ahead.  It helps us retain our minister, church office manager, music director, pay for speakers, cleaning, supplies, and the very, very many other needs of our building and congregations.  Please do consider giving this year to help support our work as we are at work 7 Days a Week and not just on Sundays.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Julie Miller, President UUCG Board of Trustees

Voices of the Holocaust Sunday April 7-14 is dedicated to Sam Henlne
The mission of the Holocaust Memorial Observance is to inform and educate about the perils of prejudice, racism, hatred and bigotry from the perspective of the European Holocaust so that persons group or governments never again inflict such atrocities.  We remember the Holocaust so that the members of  our community may be courageous in opposing hate, bigotry and prejudice.

The Final Event of the Holocaust Memeorial Observancs is THE KLEZMER BAND CONCERT
The Holocaust Memorial Observances are dedicating the events of 2019 to Sam Henline, UUCG Music Director, who died very unexpectedly in December
and who added greatly to many past Holocaust Memorial Observances. His love for music was partially expressed in the yearly concert that he and his Klezmer band presented at the culmination of each year's events. He prepared the group with heartfelt music and researched and presented it with historical relevance to our Observances. Please plan to attend the Klezmer Concert on Sunday, April 14th at UUCG at 1:00 p.m to help honor his memory.

Clean up Klezmer concert
Please help Hollis clean up after the Klezmer concert.  We need to have the church ready by 3:00p so that our renters Iglesia Apostolica is  ready for their service.  Please let her know if you are willing and able to help.  call Hollis 970-590-3289 (text or talk)  Thank you!

PSWD 2019 District Assembly
Save the weekend of April 26-28, 2019, for the next
Pacific Southwest District Assembly at the UU Church of Long Beach, California! Our theme will be, "From the Ground Up: The Power of Our PSWD Communities." The congregation is the foundation of our Unitarian Universalist faith. Everything we do as an expression of our faith is grounded in the local communities from which we all take comfort and strength. Some of our greatest joys sprout from the spiritual communities and the congregations of the Pacific Southwest District – both large and small. How does the theme apply to your congregation or your life?

Looking for way to contribute to UUCG on Sundays?
You don't have to speak in public or have the best voice in the world, as there are a number of ways in which you can help UUCG on Sundays.
  • Bring a snack for coffee/volunteer - Our volunteers not only make the coffee but they often donate their own dollars for snacks for coffee.  Your $$ donation for coffee time or snack donation can help offset those costs for our Coffee Hour volunteers.  You can also volunteer to make coffee and help with clean-up.  Talk to Margaret and she will get you connected.
  • Offer to shovel the sidewalks when it snows - Just contact Julie Miller to help with the task.  The more, the merrier and it will get done quickly.  Shovels and snow remover are readily available at the church.
  • Greet / Host - A warm smile and a "hello" are a wonderful start to any Sunday morning.  Bulletins are printed and waiting.  You help us take a tally on attendance and make sure our guests are contacted by board members or our minister.
  • Help with our AV team - We can always use some extra hands running our AV equipment - microphones, slideshows, videos & training is provided.  Volunteers often are scheduled 1 time or less per month, based on availability.
  • Special Music - Do you have some musical talent you would like to share?  Please consider sharing it with us.    It's always a treat to recognize our member's talents.
