What's happening at the UUCG?
Mar. 5th - Mar. 11th, 2019 Community Events this Week THANK YOU! Thanks to all who attended and or gave so generously to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greeley Tuesday Feb. 26th. It was a fun night with friendly faces and good food. We will gather together again in the future and if you weren't able to attend last time maybe we will see you next time! Fermenting Spirituality Our monthly drop-in ‘spiritual symposium’ is again on Monday March 11th will focus on our monthly theme of Nature. Our discussion will begin with quotes from theological thinkers and questions curated by Rev. Norris and end wherever nature calls us. We’ve had great turn out the past few months with old and new faces. For this month we will meet at High Brau, 915 16th Street, Greeley, CO 80631 at 6:00 pm. The discussions normally last for an hour and a half or a bit more. Refugee 101 / Volunteer Training: This is the first step to volunteering with our refugee programs. During this session you will learn about the current refugee situation and what it takes to get involved. Tuesday March 12th from 6:30pm - 8:00 pm. LFSRM Refugee & Asylee Office 1102 5th St. Greeley, CO 80631 Quiz for a Cause Trivia Nights: Free to play and beer to be won! $1.00 per pint sold will go towards helping refugees in our very own Greeley community! Greeley, CO 80631 Worship This Week Daylight Savings Time (clocks move forward) Sunday, Mar. 10th - “The Colors Of The Spirit” Rev. Aaron Norris "Nature always wears the colors of the spirit," noted the great Unitarian Transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson. This week Rev. Norris unpacks the history of Unitarian and Universalist inspirations found in nature and what they can teach us today. RE: Celebration of Spring Become A Host formerly known as Greeter Are you interested in serving the church as a host? There will be an informational meeting at 11:30 on March 10th. This will be an opportunity for you to learn about being a host. See Josette if you have any questions. Other News and Reminders Living Generously Our March designated organizations for are: 1)Gifts From The Heart, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those less fortunate in our community gather clothing, household items, and information pertaining to other community resources. Regardless of race, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, creed, religion, or background. 2)Boys and Girls Club of Weld County’s mission statement is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. 3) Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) is a non-profit, nonsectarian associate member organization of the Unitarian Universalist Association that works to provide disaster relief and promote human rights and social justice around the world. Taste of Weld Co: Join us for a night of family fun to benefit LFS programs including Care-House, Parenting Education & Support, and Safe Touch. Enjoy unlimited samples from more than 30 local restaurants, tastes from local breweries, live music from Aaron Kantor and Ben Pu, face painting, and silent auction. Goodness! Gracious! Great Bowls of Fire! Chili and Salsa Challenge Pledge Dinner. Saturday March 23rd, from 5:30 PM to 7:00PM Please mark your calendars for our Annual Pledge Drive and Chili Cook-off. We will be having two divisions in the Chili portion of the competition - the "seasoned cooks" for those 15 years or older and for those under 14, a Youth Competition. And, if you aren't into chili, please bring us your best Salsa, as there will be a Salsa Competition, as well. And yes, there will be trophies for each category! Dress in your best 50's costume and come ready to pledge and play! There will be a sign-up sheet to get a count of those who will be able to attend and for those brave enough to take on the challenge. At the latest Board of Trustees meeting, the gauntlet was thrown down between the Board President and the Minister. Whew! It's gettin' hot in here!
