What's happening at the UUCG?
Nov. 6th - Nov. 12th, 2018 Clean Up Day Things are looking spiffy around here. We held our cleanup day Sunday Nov. 4th! Thank you to all who came out and took part in keeping our church clean and ready for winter! Tuesday, Nov. 6th - Election Day Social Justice Group The Social Justice Group will be taking donations of canned goods for Thanksgiving. Keep your eye out for a basket to place your donations. Social Justice Group meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 10am - 11:30am. Next meeting: Nov. 13th, 2018. Coffee Help Romy Miller has volunteered to be in charge of coffee on the off weeks when Rev. Aaron is not there. It would be appreciated if we could have a volunteers to bring cookies on one the following dates - Nov. 18th, Dec. 9th, Dec. 23 and Dec. 30th. Tuesday, Nov. 6th, 2018 - Build Your Own Theology Class 6pm @ UUCG November 11th - Guest Speaker, Karl Krebs Our service will be lead by the guest preacher, Karl Krebs, who is a seminarian at Iliff School of Theology and a candidate for ministry in the Unitarian Universalist tradition. Karl will be introducing us in this month to the theme of Justice. RE: Class #5 Yang & Yin and the Dwark P’an Ku Sunday, Nov. 11th - Choir Practice at 11:15am following the service. Monday, Nov. 12th, 2018 - Veterans Day (Observed) Tuesday, Nov. 13th, 2018 - Social Justice Group 10am - 1130 am at UUCG. Tuesday, Nov. 13th, 2018 - Build Your Own Theology - Cancelled due to a family conflict that Rev. Norris has in the evening. The class will meet up again after the Thanksgiving Holiday on November 27th, 2018. Friday Nov. 16th, 2018 - Unifax Submissions Due Chalice Arts We are proud to announce this months’ Chalice Arts show will be the Writing and Art of Ruth Zachary. Her art will be presented in the sanctuary. Thank you, Ruth, for lending us your art works! Offering Our Plate (Living Generously) As a worthy local charity, SAVA Center was selected this week as the recipient group to receive our weekly plate. Our Beloved Community is proud to help SAVA to help survivors of sexual assault in the spirit of our church to grow spiritually, live meaningfully, and help heal the world.**Now that the nomination process has begun, we hope members will consider making a nomination. Using our plate in this way will help us to grow of spiritual practice, live more meaningfully, and help heal our world. Norris will host Pub Theology drop-in discussion Group on the second Monday nights of the month at 6:30 p.m. (the first will be November 12); the location is Patrick’s Irish Pub at 909 8th Avenue in Greeley.. BOOK CLUB Book club meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month, at 1:30 pm @ Your Place Coffee, 2308 W. 17th Street, Greeley, CO 80634. Anyone is welcome to drop in. Our selection for November 15th will be Amor Towles' A Gentleman in Moscow . We will then take a break for the holidays and come back in January 2019. Monday, Nov. 19th, 2018 - Board Meeting 6pm Worship Committee Worship is central to what we as a faith community do. Regardless of what other contributions we make during the week to this Beloved Community, once a week we gather together as a whole and share powerful experience. There events do not happen without a tremendous amount of planning, collaboration and thoughtful exploration. You can bring your unique talents to this community and help us all with this important project. The Worship Committee is seeking additional members! NEXT MEETING: SUNDAY, November 25, 2018 Decorating Party Please join us for a decorating party! We will be decorating the church and putting up the Christmas Tree after the service on November 25th. We hope to see you there! The Unitarian Universalist Church of Greeley invites you to attend with him "Grapes of Wrath" on Thursday, November 15 at 7:30 PM. The play has cast some of our very own children as and preformed at the Langworthy Theatre. Adult tickets are $19 (seniors & faculty/staff of UNC are $17). Rev. Norris says he'll coordinate the purchase the group’s tickets on Monday the 5th. RSVP to Rev. Aaron Norris, Minister or email before then so he has an accurate headcount and so we can plan a pre-play dinner for those interested. UNC describes the play as based on the “[r]enowned first as a novel, and then as a prize-winning motion picture, the story of the Joad family and their flight from the dust bowl of Oklahoma is familiar to all. Desperately proud, but reduced to poverty by the loss of their farm, the Joads pile their few possessions on a battered old truck and head west for California, hoping to find work and a better life. Led by the indomitable Ma Joad, who is determined to keep the family together at any cost, and by the volatile young Tom Joad, an ex-convict who grows increasingly impatient with the intolerance and exploitation that they encounter on their trek to the “promised land.” And yet, despite the anguish and suffering that it depicts, the play becomes in the final essence a soaring and deeply moving affirmation of the indomitability of the human spirit and of the essential goodness and strength that—then as now—reside in the hearts and minds of the "common man," throughout the world. Winner of the 1990 Tony Award and Outer Critics Circle Award." Pathways to Membership Are you interested in joining the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greeley? Would you like to know more about how to join and what our community is all about? Rev. Norris hosts a Pathway to Membership class approximately every six weeks about 30 minutes after services. The class is approximately 90 minutes and reviews UU history and theology, the history and structure of UUCG, and some of the responsibilities and benefits of membership. It is also a great way to get to know others who are considering joining our beloved community. The next date is November 25.
