UUCG Service to Refugees and Asylees
We are happy to announce that UUCG will be once again providing space to Lutheran Family Services Refugee & Asylee Programs' Services Work Club once a week for job skills and technology education.

 
Chalice Arts / Judith Meyers Art
Be sure to catch the Chalice Arts show for August-September which will once again feature works by the late Judith Meyers. Understandably, it is difficult to do justice to the breadth of Judith’s talent in a single show. Past shows at the church have focused on her Christmas paper-cut trees and prints, her works with feminist or social justice themes, and the watercolors produced in the years when she taught at schools in Germany and France. This time we began with three examples of Judith’s calligraphy donated recently by her daughter Liza and then added works acquired over the years by church members and others from service auctions or trips to Judith’s gallery, Madison & Main. Paper cuts, calligraphy, watercolors, and fabric arts will all be represented.
There is no specific theme to this show other than to remind us of just how much Judith contributed to her church and wider community. The artist who took part in numerous solo and group art shows and collaborated with Judy Chicago brought the works of other prominent local artists into our sanctuary as our second Chalice Arts director. The teacher who had pioneered arts education in the local school district co-taught adult RE classes on the Goddess. The proponent of social justice who once helped wrap peace ribbons around the Pentagon participated in our church’s social action committee and collected the annual UUSC Guest at Your Table donations. The world traveler who was never without her sketchbook brought the world back to us in the form of her sketches and the elaborate international dinners offered as coveted service auction items. The church was, and continues to be, full of her art from the papercut banners on the chancel and in the lobby to the chalice design on our stationery and newsletters and the calligraphy on the older nametags. She was active for all but the very last few months of her 86 years and, even two years later, it is hard for those of us who knew her to believe that she’s no longer with us. We were truly blessed to have her and her legacy at the church continues to live on.

 


 
Other News and Reminders

Build Your Own Theology (a UU way to do Adult Education)
Rev. Norris will be teaching every Tuesday for ten weeks starting October 2 at 6:00. Everyone over 16 and over is welcome. Please signup by sending an email to Rev. Norris at minister@greeleyuuc.org to save your spot. 
“Based on the assumption that everyone is their own theologian, this classic UU adult education program invites participants to develop their own personal credos, the fundamental religious beliefs, values, and convictions that inform and direct of their lives. [The sessions] pose five developmental tasks in which participants come to terms with human nature, ultimate reality, history, ethics and religious meaning. Begins with an introduction to our seven UU principles.” -Rev. Dr. Richard S. Gilbert, Course Author”.


Volunteers Needed
Each Sunday, we are fortunate to have 1-2 volunteers bring/serve treats for coffee hour after the service.  We are in dire need of volunteers to help us staff this time. Even 1 Sunday per quarter (every 3 months) is a major contribution. Training is provided and you will get to use our new coffee maker!!!   It’s a great opportunity to meet congregants and interact with the UUCG community.  Contact Diane Culver 970-378-7544
 
 
Coffee Hour Changes
We are very fortunate to have had a great number of volunteers in the past who have offered their time and support to our coffee hour. Unfortunately, going forward due to the lack of volunteers, we will be limiting the coffee hour to the Sundays that Reverend Norris is speaking. We can fill more volunteer spots on coffee days as the demand increases. Thank you all for your donations of food and time.
 
 
Be a Greeter on Sunday Morning

UUCG Service to Refugees and Asylees

Donation Needed 
The RE program needs construction paper, glue sticks, and markers.   We also will begin research on retaining a new copier for the church office, as our old one just isn't able to be repaired anymore.  It's done a fine job, but we are beginning to have some problems, as the serviceable parts have become obsolete.

Have you Noticed Our (2) Blue Recycling Bins in the Church?  One is located by the North Entrance under our information station. The other is located in the Barbara Bowles Room by the East entrance
