What's happening at the UUCG?
Sept. 20th - Sept. 26th, 2017 Thursday Sept. 21 - UNIFAX SUBMISSIONS DUE Sunday Sept. 21 - "The Power of an Ember" Julie Miller Newton's first law of motion states that "a body at rest (or in our case our spirit) unless acted upon by an outside force. We may tend to do the same unless we find our ember and tend it. An ember can be a powerful thing. Many things have been started by a small spark. In this time of great uncertainty, it is easy to feel frozen or helpless. We will spend time exploring the power of our embers. Tuesday Sept. 26th - Spritual Stimulation & Support Group Our 2nd & 4th Tuesday evenings Spiritual Stimulation and Support Group will meet from 7:00 to 8:00pm in the church sanctuary for sharing and caring. Each night is a stand-alone event where anyone is welcome to join, even if you are only available for the one single evening. Each group is different depending on who shows up, and their needs for stimulation and/or support. We strive to honor one an-other's life path, experiences, and perspectives. We share from the heart, and open ourselves to listen fully to one another with compassion. What is shared in the group, stays in the group. This Month’s Theme is Humanism. Please contact facilitator Josette Schaffer at josetteschaffer@msn.com or Kathy Vaughn at kathy.jinka@gmail.com for more information. Sunday October 1st- "May The Circle be Unbroken"- Rev. Barry Bloom How does love “bind” a circle? When each of us “comes and steps inside” that circle, we agree to care for and be compassionate to our fellow human beings with whom we have agreed to be connected. A form of spiritual “family.” A beloved community made authentic and loving not through being told we must, but because we choose to include and share with all those who are called to our sides. Other News and Reminders From your Board President Re: Space Availability: Hello all! I would like to make you aware of the church's availability on Sundays, after our usual 10:00 AM service. Our renters will now be starting their services at 4:00 PM each Sunday. The church will have availability for meetings / classes / events typically from 11:30 or 12:00 pm for church activities until approximately 3:30 PM - at the latest. Of course, we will have inquiries from occasional renters, but consider making your meeting after our service. The congregants are already here. You have the space. You STILL need to check with Margaret on availability, but please consider using the space. You may want to consider bringing something to eat for lunch to help tide you over for your meeting or activity. Do keep in mind that the third Sunday of the month, from 11:30 until usually 1:00 PM, you will find your Board of Trustees at work in the RE room. Thank you, Julie Miller Coffee Hour Volunteers Needed: Each Sunday, we are fortunate to have 1-2 volunteers bring/serve treats for coffee hour after the service. We are in dire need of volunteers to help us staff this time. Even 1 Sunday per quarter (every 3 months) is a major contribution. Training is provided and you will get to use our new coffee maker!!! It’s a great opportunity to meet congregants and interact with the UUCG community. Contact Diane Culver for info. Be a Greeter on Sunday Morning Please share your smiling faces to greet on Sunday mornings. All you need to do is arrive at 9:40 and: 1. Say, "Good morning. Here is an order of service" 2. Hand out an order of service. 3. Remind the person to put on their name tag. (Another volunteer will be at the Newcomers Cafe to talk with visitors.) 4. About 10 minutes after the service begins, do a head-count and give the number to the worship associate. Please contact Hollis at hollisbeth28@gmail.com, if you'd like to help. Thank You!
