Religious Education Program

Welcome

The Religious Exploration (RE) Program of the Unitarian Church of Greeley welcomes youth ages 6 weeks-19 years.  We strive to create a community where children are welcome to share their beliefs and feelings freely and creatively.  We embrace the uniqueness of each person and take time to celebrate life events both big and small.

For more information, to enroll children, or for answers to specific questions, please contact our Religious Exploration Coordinator, Erika Coan. E-mail: eacoan@msn.com

Our Philosophy and Goals

In our RE program, we concentrate our time and energy to assist our children as they grow: physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. We encourage each child to:

Curriculum

In order to ensure that our children are well rounded in our religious tradition, we base our lessons on five pillars of study.  It is our hope that by studying one of these five pillars every Sunday provide a strong foundation in what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist. These five pillars are:

Unitarian Universalist History and Ideas: which attempts to answer questions such as “What does it mean to be UU?” “How did our religion begin?” “Historically, who was UU?” “What do UUs believe?” and “What do I believe and why?”

Social Justice and Diversity: which includes UU traditions in social justice; and in which we celebrate differences among us; we learn how to build bridges with all people; and we discover the part that each of us can play in making the world a better place.

Earth Stewardship: in which we foster a greater sensitivity toward the environment; a sense of connectedness and belonging; and an understanding that we are an integral part of the universe. We also study ways in which children can protect the earth.

Judeo Christian Traditions: which helps UU children become familiar with stories that their friends know. They study the Bible as history as well as literature and they learn how these stories came to be written and what the Bible can teach us about our world today.

World Religions: which teaches a similar program on what children (and adults) around the world believe. It is our opinion that this knowledge will assist in the pursuit of world peace, as well as each child’s understanding of what it means to be UU.
