After God created the Heavens and the Earth, on the seventh day he rested. What does that mean for us today? Whether we believe in the biblical story or not, regularly taking time for rest and healing is important to our health and spirit. We joined Mary Louise Gerek, a member of Foothills Unitarian Worship Learning Community in her exploration for what Sabbath time means in our everyday lives. Click to listen to Mary Louise's sermon. You can also access to her sermon and the readings! Her main sources were sermons by Rebecca Parker, the book Sabbath by Wayne Muller (she took the Merton quote from this book), and In the Quiet of this Hour, a book of meditations by Richard Gilbert.

Nurturing our inner selves requires us to have patience and to think about what time we spend on different activities, simplifying in order to make space to find out what's truly important to us.
